After a rocky start leaving Chicago in a tornado warning on Lake Shore Drive, we we were lucky enough to outrun the stormy weather on the drive my parents’ house in Michigan, to be greeted by a rainbow! What a fitting symbol for weathering the last 10 months…which was the last time I had seen most of my family.

The week we stayed in Michigan was packed full of fun and lots of time with family! We took a day trip to Grand Rapids where we got to explore neighborhoods with Michael (brother), Jules (niece), Jessica (sister), and Steve (brother-in-law), including a cemetery tour by our own unofficial Grand Rapids ghost expert (Jessica).

During the week we got to happy-hour with Kristina (sister) and J’son (brother-in-law), play Magic the Gathering with Josh (brother) and Kitty (his cat) and spend a little time every day in the pool. We loved getting the chance to spend evenings with Beth (mom) and Jeff (step-dad) whether it was having dinner together or having our asses handed to us in a game of Sequence.

We ended the week with an epic 3rd of July pool party with the whole family, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. We left Michigan with happy hearts, heading to our next stop of Louisville, KY (about 5.5 hour drive).

Maeby, on the other hand, hated the drive and hated the dogs (Honey and Bear). She is loving her anti-anxiety meds (and so are we 😆)
