We chose Staunton as a destination because of its proximity to Shenandoah National park (and our limited availability of pet-friendly Airbnbs) but it turns out this town has a lot of character and historic charm. We loved going for walks around town and some of the nearby neighborhoods to admire the beautiful (and huge) Victorian-era houses. We also found out that this was the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson!

We discovered some great spots to eat and drink in town! Among our favorites were: giant bloody marys at Table 44, ciders served in little beakers at Ciders from Mars, any beer at Redbeard brewing (and hanging out with dogs on their patio), brunch in the street at Zynodoa, and (not pictured) the “best ribs in the Valley” at Mill Street Grill.

On a (beautiful) day off, we visited Gypsy Hill Park to wander around and enjoy the sun and green space. We found that the park wasn’t particularly pedestrian-friendly, but it was full of willow trees (my favorite), a duck pond, and most importantly, we found a community pool! We came back to this pool the next day and it was a great way to escape the heat!

Maeby update: Maeby loves her new napping spots (couch and rug) and loves her new toy that Don picked out for her at Petco.
